As a naturopath doctor I find that pyramid companies such as Melaleuca and Young Living are often viewed as scams because of the forced monthly orders and that would be a conflict of interest for me. This is one reason why I do not sell any supplements in office.
I also stay away from melaleuca and Arbonne because I don't like the products, why? Because they are not 100% natural as they claim to be and they are not listed with the organic consumers association. The OCA has the highest standards and you will see that many so called "natural and organic" companies aren't on there. This is because there is a truth in labelling act that only applies to food and even with that companies are allowed to add pretty much whatever they want to their products without getting caught....the most blatant offenders are cigarettes, alcohol and baby formula.
I also wouldn't have need for the most of the products because I don't use supplements and make my own cleaning products out of apple cider vinegar, H2O2 and baking soda.......
One aspect of my business is trying to wean people off supplements-I see alot of people addicted to supplements and spend hundreds of dollars a month on pills they think are keeping them alive, yet they are plagued with chronic disease.....and so in healing chronic disease they need also to look at their psychological disorders. There are a few things I use and recommend such as high quality fish oil or chlorella, but for the most part I use simple herbs-which are very cheap in price. My children for a vitamin every day have a cup of nettle/hibiscus tea-in the winter they nettle/ginger-when they are sick I use simple things from our garden like dandelion and milk thistle-These things can be cultivated by the individual and are therefore empowering and liberating....costing only pennies but are highly nutritive and healing.....in many ways I am the Melaleuca enemy number 1....but it is not just Melaleuca, I also feel this way about Young Living as well, although slightly less stronger....please read my blog on the dangers of essential oils.
I used to be in a pyramid company myself 15 years ago called Mannatech......it was disasterous-not only did it break me financially trying to keep up with the steep monthly orders but it cost me alot of friendships as well-turning my friends into desperate leads. Finally, I found out the woman who signed me up died of cancer. She was going around telling people Mannatech had healed her from cancer and the company was using her at all of their Amway/cult like hypnotic rallies. However, the company never told anyone she was dead and what happened to her.....
As an update, one month after this blog I was recently invited to a party-which turned out to be a melaleuca rally. People were talking about how rich they had become by using the product and how they are "fighting" cancer by using the product. It was very hypnotic in nature-a few peoples success stories and a video from the "headquarters." While, I cannot assume these people are lying-from my other experiences both personal and now with people who admit to me in office that they are not really getting the benefits that they have been selling others about-irks me to no end. My only hope is that people will start to see the desperateness of their behavior which involves unconscious lies and even tricking their friends. They want to believe in their amazing miracle product-but in this way pyramid schemes act like nothing more than fundamental cultish religions. Enslaving and disenfranchising themselves, their followers and their friends from ultimate health and freedom.
I have a hard time believing that this is the future-ready made multimillion dollar pills that give the "gift of life"......no, that is the gift of lie....we must get back to nature, biodynamic farming and cultivating our own herbs to heal ourselves and eachother! I look at natural health as a sacred obligation-I am not impressed by the capitalist ploys to squeeze nickels and dimes out of the sick...to me it is no different than the pharmaceutical companies...my hope is for people to find the inherent strength and freedom to heal from within-without locking their mind and pocketbook into a "machine."
